Champa; Plumeria flower

Plumeria or frangipani is called ‘Champa’ in India.  This sweet scented flower is very beautiful and charming. In Buddhist and Hindu culture it is used as offering in temples.  As seen  in the picture above, there is a yellow tint at the center of flower. Which really looks fabulous against its white backdrop. Depending on its habitat, plumeria flowers in various shades and each one of them looks wonderful.  It is also used in incense sticks in combination with other aromas for fragrance.

The yellow thread like structures in the white saffron flowers form the the saffron or kesar, which is a spice and used in different ways in India or abroad.

It is used as additive in food because it renders a beautiful colour and a distinct flavor to it. Saffron is also used in medicine and beauty products. Here in India it is considered sacred and is used to tilak deities as well as the devotees. Saffron has been a part of our lives since many a generations.
